Elmira, NY- A crowd of over 4,800 fans packed Dunn Field to watch the Pioneers in their final home game of the 2012 season. Elmira has one game left in the regular season as they travel to Newark. With Historic Dunn Field energized the Pioneers offense could not find its way against Mohawk Valley’s Eddie Fitzpatrick (Brown) falling 13-2.
The DiamondDawgs would get onto the scoreboard first in the second inning against Elmira starter John Melville (New Haven). Chris Cruz (Cornell) would put the Visiting team on top 6-0 as he connected on a three run home run with two outs in the inning. The DiamondDawgs would tack on three more runs in the third inning to make it 9-0.
Elmira would breakthrough against Fitzpatrick in the fifth inning as Corey Hamula (Sullivan County C.C.) laced a triple over the center fielder's head allowing Landon Prentiss (VCU) to score from first making it 13-1. Elmira would plate their final run of the night in the sixth inning as Spencer Brann (UC Davis) scored from third on a wild pitch by Fitzpatrick.
James Yacabonis (Saint Joe’s) would close out the final home game of the season allowing just one base runner between the eighth and ninth innings and striking out the side in the ninth. Elmira will travel to Newark on Wednesday to take on the Pilots to end the season at Colburn Park. Dunn Field will still be active this summer as Margaritaville 2 comes to town on Friday, Aug. 17th at 7:00 pm. Fans can order tickets by calling 607-734-2690.
